Ninth Street Dog Park sits at 417 West Ninth Street, in Fourth Ward on the western side of Uptown. It’s a Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation facility, listed on the county’s dog parks page alongside Frazier, Davie, and Barkingham. That page is where the rules come from, and they apply across the county’s dog parks rather than being written for this one.
The rules are short. County dog parks are “open daily from 7:30 a.m. to sunset,” which puts closing time on a sliding scale through the year: past nine on a long June evening, mid-afternoon dark in December. Vaccinations are a condition of entry. The county’s language is “Rabies with Tag Number, DHLPP & Bordetella,” and it’s written as the requirement for using the off-leash areas. No children under the age of 12 are allowed. The county also says owners “must follow all posted dog park rules,” which makes the signage on site the operative document once you’re through the entrance.
That off-leash line is the county’s only published statement about leashing here. Everything past it is unpublished. Fencing, a divided area for small and large dogs, water, shade, agility obstacles, and whether there’s any fee: third-party directories and apps describe several of these, but none of it appears in the county’s own rules, so this listing doesn’t carry it. The county’s general information line is 980-314-1000.
Two naming details worth knowing before searching. The county writes it “Ninth Street Dog Park”; OpenStreetMap, the Uptown business district site, and most review platforms write it “9th Street Dog Park.” And it’s frequently described as a First Ward park. The address puts it in Fourth Ward, west of Tryon, several blocks from the LYNX 9th Street station that carries the same number.
