Kaspian Campground

Dogs are not allowed on the beaches at Kaspian. That line sits in the campground’s own notices on the reservation page, next to a limit of two pets per site. The campground is on the inland side of Highway 89, and the cobbled shoreline strip across the road is the closest water.

The Forest Service runs the site through its Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, whose published baseline is that a leashed dog is welcome almost anywhere in the unit except designated swimming beaches and wildlife closures. Six-foot leash, pick up after them. Nothing in the campground’s own rules relaxes that.

Nine sites, tents only, all of them walk-to. Campers park in the lot and carry gear in. Flush toilets and drinking water are on site; there are no showers and no hookups. All campers register with the camp host, and it’s one vehicle per site, with extra vehicles paid on arrival. The forest is mature ponderosa pine and white fir, so most of the sites hold shade through the afternoon.

The paved West Shore bike trail passes the campground. Mostly level, leashed dogs allowed, and it connects north to the 64-Acres Park trailhead four miles up the highway. Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge sits about two miles along that same stretch toward town. Blackwood Canyon Road takes off from the highway right at the campground entrance.

Bears are active here, and the notices direct campers to use appropriate food containers. Forest Order No. 19-15-01 caps camping at 14 days total per calendar year across the forest, combined across sites. Neither the Forest Service page nor the reservation listing mentions water for dogs one way or the other.
