Kilner Park

Kilner Park sits at Highway 89 and Ward Avenue, three and a half miles south of Tahoe City. TCPUD owns and operates it. The paved West Shore Trail runs through the park, and that trail carries the district’s only published dog rule for this spot: keep dogs on a short leash.

The park itself has no published pet policy. TCPUD’s Kilner Park page lists hours and amenities and says nothing about dogs. The district’s rental fee schedule for the park has no Pets line either. The Skylandia sheet does carry one: “Leashed pets allowed in park, but not on the beach.” So the trail rule is confirmed and the park grounds are not. Placer County’s leash law applies otherwise, enforced by Placer County Animal Services.

The West Shore Trail runs along the highway side of the park, so road noise comes from that edge. Amenities are a playground, one tennis court, four pickleball courts, a sand volleyball court, restrooms, drinking water, picnic areas, and a bike repair station at the trail. There’s a dedicated parking lot, which is not a given at West Shore trail access points. The courts are lighted. Drop-in pickleball holds them Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, nine to noon.

Hours run 8am to 10pm daily, with the tennis and pickleball courts closing at 8pm. The group picnic area reserves through TCPUD and holds up to 75 people. Drinking water is listed as a park amenity; nothing on the page mentions dog bowls one way or the other. North from here the trail continues toward the Y and the 64-Acres trailhead, the network’s main parking hub.
