Lake Forest Boat Ramp at Pomin Park

The Tahoe City Public Utility District runs the town’s beaches, and its FAQ answers the dog-beach question directly: there isn’t one, but “dogs are allowed next to the boat ramp in Lake Forest/Pomin Park.” That makes this strip of shoreline the town’s one agency-sanctioned place where a dog can reach Lake Tahoe’s water.

It’s a working boat ramp beside a neighborhood park, not a sandy crescent. The “beach” is the rocky shoreline flanking the ramp. The water is the same impossibly clear Tahoe blue, the Lake Forest neighborhood runs low-key compared to the downtown lakefront, and on a summer evening a dog splashing beside the ramp is what the spot is designated for.

The ramp sits about two miles northeast of downtown off Highway 28, with Pomin Park’s ballfield and picnic facilities behind the shoreline. The FAQ’s allowance covers the boat-ramp area specifically, not the rest of the park. No leash rule is published for this spot; Placer County’s leash law applies everywhere in town regardless, and boat trailers back down the ramp through the same space. Skylandia Park and its dog-legal woodland trails are a few minutes away.

Two water notes that apply here as everywhere on the lake: the Forest Service warns that giardia is present in Tahoe’s waters, and California maintains a harmful algal bloom map covering the late-summer weeks when blooms appear. Boat-ramp operations are seasonal. The shoreline itself doesn’t close.
