The Old Post Office Cafe publishes no dog policy. Not on its website, not in its Instagram bio. This listing rests on visitor reports: two independent Tahoe guides describe leashed dogs at the outdoor tables, and nothing from the cafe confirms or contradicts them.

What the cafe says about itself is that it does “outdoor lake view dining,” and that it has been serving breakfast and lunch in Carnelian Bay since 1976. Locals call it the OPO. The building sits on the lake side of North Lake Boulevard, roughly six miles northeast of Tahoe City past Lake Forest Beach, with the water a short walk across the road. Open daily, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The outdoor space is where the accounts diverge. Agate Bay Realty’s dog-friendly roundup puts dogs at outdoor picnic tables shaded by umbrellas. Tahoe Dog Co.’s North Shore guide calls it a dog-friendly patio with lake views. A separate Tahoe listing describes an enclosed front porch with a filtered view of the lake. Whether that is the same seating or a second area isn’t resolved by anything published.

Indoors goes unmentioned by both dog sources. Neither claims dogs inside, so this page doesn’t either.

No leash rule is posted by the cafe. Placer County’s animal control ordinance, Article 6.08, covers unincorporated Carnelian Bay and requires a leash no longer than six feet whenever a dog is off its owner’s property. Water bowls and dog treats turn up in a third-party directory that doesn’t meet the sourcing bar here, so they stay off this page.
