Pepper Tree Inn

Pepper Tree Inn is the seven-story building on North Lake Boulevard, and it’s the tallest thing in downtown Tahoe City. The hotel’s own page dates the structure to construction ahead of the 1960 Winter Olympics. Rooms look across the boulevard at the lake. There’s on-site parking.

Dogs stay on the ground floor. That is the entire published shape of the policy: “Pets are permitted in ground floor rooms only,” which appears on the standard rooms page and nowhere else on the site — the deluxe and superior room pages carry no pet language at all. Booking is the other half of it. “Pet friendly rooms are only available by phone,” the page says, followed by “Call us to avoid any additional charges.” The online booking widget doesn’t handle it.

What the inn doesn’t publish is the size of those charges. No fee figure appears anywhere on the site. No leash rule either, so county leash law applies on the grounds. Nothing about water bowls, size limits, or breeds. Service animals sit outside all of this: the accessibility page says the inn fully welcomes all service animals under ADA requirements, which is not a pet policy and carries no fee.

The address does specific things. Commons Beach is a few blocks down the boulevard toward the Y, and dogs aren’t allowed on the beach itself. The paved lakefront trail that runs past it does take leashed dogs, and it’s a walk from the front door. The Tahoe Tap Haus patio sits along the same stretch. 64-Acres Park, the trailhead with actual parking, is about five minutes by car.

Third-party booking sites disagree with each other about this hotel’s pet rules, some listing a flat pet fee and others saying no pets at all. The phone number above is the only place the fee gets settled.
