Skylandia Park & Beach

Skylandia sits in the Lake Forest neighborhood on the east side of town, off Lake Forest Road at the end of Aspen Street. TCPUD’s rule, verbatim: “Dogs are allowed on leash in the park but not allowed on the beach.” The woodland trails, the meadow, and the picnic areas under the pines are all inside the leashed-dog boundary. The sand and swim beach are not. Commons Beach downtown bans dogs entirely, so this park is where a leashed dog legally gets closest to the water in Tahoe City — fifty yards or so, through genuine pine forest running down to the shore.

The park is the quieter counterpart to the downtown lakefront. There’s a pier, three picnic areas with barbecues, and restrooms. The group picnic area has running water, which covers filling a dog bowl. Kayak and SUP storage is on site.

The woodland trails loop through the forest between the road and the water, shaded and soft underfoot, cool even in August. The leash requirement is both the TCPUD rule and Placer County law.

Posted hours are 8am to 10pm, May 1 through October 31, “weather permitting” — a three-season park by its own signage. TCPUD doesn’t publish parking details for the park.
