Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge

Sunnyside is the West Shore’s landmark, a lakefront lodge and restaurant two miles south of Tahoe City with one of the best-known dining decks on the lake. The lodge half carries a published pet policy: dogs stay in pet-designated guest rooms for a flat $60 per stay, not per night.

The terms come straight from the policy page. Pets are leashed at all times on the property. Pet-designated rooms only, arranged at booking. No pets in the lodge building’s interior common areas or anywhere food is being served. On unattended dogs the lodge takes a middle path: it prefers pets never be left alone in a room, and where that’s unavoidable, the dog must be in a carrier. The policy also asks guests to coordinate housekeeping times with the front desk.

The deck needs its own paragraph. The lodge’s policy bars pets from “any areas where food is being served,” and on its face that language includes the famous deck. No official source says a dog-friendly corner exists there, so the deck isn’t listed as dog-friendly here — third-party directories that claim otherwise are going beyond what the lodge publishes. The lodge itself is the only source that could settle it.

The policy points dog walkers to “the bike path located in front of our facility.” That’s the TCPUD West Shore Trail, where leashed dogs are allowed. It runs from the lodge’s frontage toward Tahoe City in one direction and deeper down the West Shore in the other.
