Dogs aren’t allowed at The Chalet. Palisades Tahoe publishes one pet policy for the whole resort, and it names two places leashed dogs can be year-round: The Village at Palisades Tahoe, which is over in Olympic Valley, and the parking lots. Nothing in it opens the Alpine base to dogs. The winter language covers the rest: “Pets are not permitted on the ski runs or chairlifts at Palisades Tahoe during the winter season,” and “At Alpine, dogs are also not permitted on sundeck or breezeway area of the main lodge.”

Where The Chalet sits is the whole story. It’s a Bavarian-style beer garden built into the Alpine Lodge at the foot of the Sherwood chair, with a small indoor room, a patio, and a snow beach out front. The patio and the snow beach are the point of the place. They also sit on the lodge apron and the snow the policy closes off. The parking lot is the last ground at Alpine where a leashed dog is allowed, and it’s a walk from there to the door.

It’s a winter operation. The resort’s dining page lists the season as winter; daily hours live on the mountain operations schedule rather than the venue page.

The menu is one sheet, nine items, mostly handheld. A haus pretzel with bier cheese and mustard, a bratwurst and an old fashioned frank on Franco Bread Co. buns, chalet chili, a reuben, grilled cheese with tomato soup, tomato soup on its own, a chalet salad, house-fried chips. Prices run eight to twenty-three dollars. MOGROG Cafe sits at the same base area and is listed separately.

Alpine Meadows Road runs about two miles down to Highway 89. The paved Truckee River Trail crosses that stretch and takes leashed dogs south toward Tahoe City and the 64-Acres trailhead.
